Salutation categories

Overview

Under Contact module → Salutation categories you define how contacts are addressed in mailings and other texts. The settings apply organization-wide.

Lower salutation levels are more informal, higher levels more formal. Each category (e.g. academic, neutral) has templates per level and language.

Features

Edit salutation settings

  1. Open Salutation categories in the contact module.
  2. Adjust levels, categories, languages, and templates.
  3. Save with Save.

Contact admins can edit; others see the settings read-only.

Manage levels, categories, and languages

  • Salutation levels: Level value (0–100), optionally marked as default salutation level
  • Salutation categories: Name, optionally marked as default salutation category
  • Salutation languages: Short name (e.g. de, en) and display name — the short name can set the salutation language in event mailings

Edit templates

Select language and category, then edit the template for each level.

Available placeholders:

  • {{first_name}}, {{last_name}}, {{alias_or_first_name}}, {{full_name}}, {{title_full_name}}

Fields

  1. Level – Numeric value (0–100), unique per organization
  2. Category name – Unique per organization
  3. Language code – Short name for mailings (e.g. de)
  4. Template – Salutation text per combination of language, category, and level

Usage

Assign contacts a salutation category under Contacts. In event mailing templates use the placeholder for personalized salutation — ERADIANT picks template, level, and language based on the contact and event.

Without a category on the contact, the organization default category applies; without a level, the default level; without a language in the mailing, the event language.

Important notes

  • You need a filled template for every combination of language, category, and level.
  • A category still assigned to contacts cannot be removed — reassign contacts first.
  • Templates with unknown placeholders are rejected.
